A man finds a Pitbull tied to a tree in a park with a note and gets the surprise of his life when he reads it
Dogs are not only cute, they are also extremely intelligent. They can understand the intentions of others, something most people don't know. They are not just "the world's lovable pets", they are also compassionate.
They are adept at interacting with children and often take care of them, similar to how parents care for their babies. Eric, the protagonist of the story, also liked dogs. His life changed forever when one day he stumbled upon an abandoned Pitbull tied to a tree with a note.
Meet Eric Maus
Eric Maus was a professional screenwriter - and his stories often took him to the most remote places. Whenever he had time, he would pack his bags and go on adventures to uncover stories. He lived his life to the fullest and did what he pleased.
However, we cannot fulfill all our wishes. And there was a particular wish that had always been on his wishlist, but he couldn't fulfill it.
Wishes
He was always someone who lived in the present moment. And he never left any of his wishes unfulfilled. But there was one wish he did not want to fulfill. And soon we will find out why.
He had always wanted to adopt a dog, but due to his numerous international assignments, he had no time to take care of a dog. He knew that his profession was not compatible with owning a pet.
Responsibilities
Dogs are undoubtedly among the cutest pets in the world - and many people desire to have a dog. But they also come with a big responsibility. Just like children, they need attention, care, and love.
But most of the time, people overlook these details and buy or adopt a dog without considering the responsibility that comes with having a dog. This can lead to dogs feeling neglected and running away from home.
Regret
Whenever he saw a dog with its owner, he felt bad because he couldn't have one. There were times when he even went to the pet store but returned empty-handed.
He constantly wondered if he would ever have his own dog. This often made him very sad. To console himself, he regularly volunteered at local animal shelters and interacted with his favorite four-legged friends.
An Idea
Eric was not the kind of person to give up easily. He had to find a way, and fortunately, he did. He knew he wouldn't give up his beloved job but at the same time, the desire to have a dog was growing within him.
The desire for a dog became stronger. One day, he spoke with a veterinarian who suggested an extraordinary idea that left Eric speechless. What could he have suggested?
A Part-Time Job
Being a full-time screenwriter in Brooklyn was not easy. His professional life interfered with adopting a dog. So, he took the veterinarian's advice and got a part-time job as a dog walker. This allowed him to walk different dogs without the responsibility of owning them.
The dogs he walked seemed to love him and enjoyed his company. Even on this Monday morning, he was out with his "clients" when he saw something heart-wrenching. What could it have been?
A Walk
He walked his clients' dogs daily, and on this day, he was with two very special dogs, Gouda and Lily, who had grown fond of him and preferred to walk with him rather than their own owners.
That morning, as Eric was about to head home after a walk through the park, they refused to leave. So, he decided to stay a bit longer, unaware of what was about to come.
A Long Walk
Prospect Park was not only a beautiful place but also a peaceful one; it was his favorite spot for writing. So on that day, Eric decided to explore the other part of the park with the dogs.
The waterfall in the park was the quietest spot in the whole area and the perfect place for writing. However, he did not expect to find something that would disturb his peace there. What had he seen?
Unexpectedly
"As I walked towards the waterfall, I saw this really big, strong Pitbull on the other side of the bridge, tied to a tree." He wondered if the dog was all alone. Had he lost his way?
Then he realized the dog was tied to a tree. The dog's eyes were wide open, looking expectantly at everyone who passed by. But where could his owner be?
Confusion
Eric looked around, hoping to find the owner somewhere. He waited for a while, but it seemed that the owner was nowhere near the dog. Eric was confused and didn't know what to do.
He was concerned about the dog's safety because he knew the animal was not safe being alone in the park like that. So he said, "I looked around and asked him, 'Hey, where is your owner?'" What should he do now?
Perplexed
The dog looked at him expectantly with its big eyes, but Eric was completely puzzled. Gouda and Lily were now getting restless and pulling at him. But he couldn't just leave the dog there and walk away.
He had to do something, but what? How could he take care of another dog? Did he even have the right to take the dog with him like that? And what if the owner returned and the dog was gone?
Concerned
"Leaving a dog alone in Prospect Park is not a good idea," explained Eric Maus in a conversation with the press. Again, he looked around to see if the dog's owner had returned, but he couldn't see anyone coming close to the dog.
He knew something was wrong. He had to find a way to help the dog, but first, he had to learn more about the animal. So, he approached the dog to examine it closely.
Hesitation
He cautiously approached the Pitbull, aware of these dogs' temperaments. They were known to be quite aggressive. Therefore, he was a little scared as he had two other dogs with him.
He noticed that the Pitbull was a female. He didn't want to put her life in danger, but at the same time, he wanted to help the animal. So, he began to approach the scared dog gently. Would the dog understand his intentions or become aggressive upon seeing a stranger approaching?
Behavior
Unlike the Pitbulls he had seen before, this dog didn't move an inch as Eric drew closer. Instead, she was calm and waiting for someone to approach her. Eric grew more confident and got very close to her. He leaned down to her level.
He felt like her eyes were filled with pain. He tried to comfort her, stroking her head, but then he noticed something on the tree that troubled him. What had he seen?
A Clue
There was a note on the tree with a few lines written in marker. Eric learned that the dog's name was "Mamas." The note mentioned that she was very friendly, which he somehow suspected as he approached the animal.
Now he realized she had been abandoned, and he wondered how someone could leave a kind dog like Mamas behind. What kind of owner would do that?
Helplessness
He was sure there must have been a good reason. He thought that the owner probably had no other choice but to take that measure. Still, many questions raced through his mind.
He thought about all the reasons why someone would abandon such a sweet dog, and then he remembered seeing a note. What was written on the note?
The Note
The note read, "Take me home. I am a great dog. I am 7 years old. Don't be put off by my size. I am sweet." The dog's name was at the top of the note, so he knew she was called "Mamas."
It seemed to be true what was written on the note. The dog was truly very sweet and unlike any other Pitbulls he knew. She was friendly and trusting, and anyone would have taken her home. But what would Eric do now?
Idea
"The Pitbull was so sweet and so gentle," Eric said in an interview. "She just lay there with her tongue out, so cute." He knew he had to rescue this abandoned dog. But what should he do? After all, he was alone and had two more dogs with him.
There was no one he could ask for help. Suddenly, an idea clicked in his mind, and he took out his phone. He had an idea and was going to put it into action. What could that idea be?
Lifesaver
He looked around to find someone to help him, but there was no one nearby. So, he decided to post the story on social media. He posted it on his Facebook page, which was frequently visited by people in his neighborhood.
He asked for advice and wrote, "Found this dog tied to a tree near the boathouse in Prospect Park." He was surprised that his post received a huge response in no time. What did people write?
Response
Eric posted on Facebook, "There is a note on the tree that says, 'Take me with you. Who should we call?'" Within seconds, his Facebook post was flooded with comments.
Soon, a person came to the park to meet Eric Maus and the dog. He had even parked a car outside the park and helped Eric to transport her into the vehicle. Where were they going to take the dog?
The Local Animal Shelter
Eric rushed to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue with his two "clients," the dog Mamas, and the man who had helped him. But first, he had to lead them and the other dogs out of the park to the car. However, it wasn't a quick process as she was a bit slow due to her weight.
The dog was very slow, but they would later find out there was a good reason for it. As they put the dog in the car, the two men noticed a drastic change.
Joyful
They hesitated, thinking she might not trust them at first. After being left alone by her owner, she might not be willing to go with strangers to an unfamiliar place. However, the dog reacted very differently from what they expected.
The two men were surprised when the dog excitedly jumped into the car without any hesitation, as if she knew she was being taken to a safe place. Where were they taking her?
Grateful
"When we took her out of the car, she seemed ready right away." She not only seemed ready but also "basically leapt out of the car - which was a really good sign. She knew she was safe."
He was grateful to all the people who responded to help the abandoned dog, especially to the man who had taken the trouble to free her from that situation. But what would they do next?
