This mishap occurred in the Nansha district of Guangzhou. According to authorities, the collision was attributed to the crew's "improper operation." The impact caused a significant section of the two-lane Lixinsha Bridge to collapse, resulting in vehicles falling from the bridge.

The local maritime bureau reported that five vehicles tumbled down due to the collapse, with two landing in the water and three on the container ship. One of the vehicles was a bus operated by Guangzhou Bus Group, with the driver being the sole individual onboard. The status of the driver remains unknown. Images released by state media depicted a bus on the ship.

Prompt response efforts were initiated, with six divers and a salvage vessel being dispatched to the scene. The incident highlighted previous plans to implement anti-collision measures on the bridge's support columns, initially slated for completion in 2022 but rescheduled for August 2024 without specified reasons for the delay.
